Why You Should Buy a Home During the Holidays

Posted: December 03, 2018 by Alan Tucker

The holiday season is an incredibly busy time, so you make think that adding the home buying process to that time of year is too much to handle. However, you should know that there are a number of advantages to buying a home during such a busy time of the year! For starters, while there may be fewer homes available, there are also fewer buyers with whom you’ll be competing! In addition, December is historically the time of year with the lowest home prices, so you may find an incredible deal on a home! Lastly, everyone involved with a closing during the holiday season will typically want it to go as quickly as possible, so you can feel confident that the closing process won’t take very long!

Less Competition

The common narrative with buying a home during the winter as a whole, and especially the holiday season, is that there aren’t as many homes on the market. While this is typically true, many people don’t consider that there are also fewer people looking to buy homes during this time, so you as a home buyer will have less competition as well! This is not to say that an amazing home that you find may go unnoticed by other buyers, but it does mean that your chances of finding and securing the home that you want will be higher!

The Price is Right

Historically, the month of December has the lowest home prices of any month. As such, your best chance of finding a great home at a low price is during the month of December! With the holidays being such a busy time, and the winter being typically thought of as the offseason of real estate, those looking to sell often lower their prices during this season! It’s important to note that some of the homes that are on the market in December are left over from the summer market, and thus may still be on the market for a number of reasons. However, there are other homes that are being sold during this time of year simply because it’s the best time of year for the seller to sell their home, and one of such homes may be exactly what you’re looking for!

Closing will Flyby

Due to how busy the holidays are, you can feel confident that once you’ve found the home that you want, the closing process will be a quick one. After all, you’ll want to move into your new home as quickly as possible, and the seller will want the transition to go by just as fast. As such, this can make the sometimes drawn out closing process become possibly the easiest part of the entire process!
