Ways to Know You Can Trust Your Realtor

There are thousands or realtors all over the country, so it’s hard to know when you choose one if you have made the right decision. Buying or selling a home can turn into a long process and you want to spend the time with someone you not only enjoy but trust. Here are some things to look for when choosing the right agent.
There are many ways to check and to see if the realtor you want to work with has a good track record. There are many websites that allow clients to leave reviews, along with the agent’s brokerage. If your agent has a good online presence it should not be hard to find reviews. With that being said, if an agent doesn’t have an online presence, that’s a good sign to move on.
You can also ask your prospective agent for client referrals. Of course, this agent wants your business, so they are most likely going to give you names of good experiences with clients, but you can usually read between the lines if the former clients didn’t think the transaction went well. You can also ask the agent for the numbers of the last 3-4 clients they worked with. This might make the process a bit less biased.
Knowledge of the Area and Market
If you are set on a specific area or neighborhood you will want to find a real estate agent that has good knowledge of not only the neighborhood but also the market. It’s important to ask questions about a specific neighborhood and see if you feel comfortable with the answers. Knowledge of a neighborhood will help your agent help you to determine if the home is priced right in the current market.
You also want an agent that stays up to date with industry news. Knowing the trends that current buyers are looking for will help to stage your home in order to attract buyers. They should also know if home values in that area are expected to rise or fall in the next few months. Your agent should be familiar with these types of things and if he/she does not have answers to these questions they may not be trustworthy.
If you are looking to sell your home, you want to be sure to ask the agents you interview how they plan to market the home. Most will suggest listing online and an open house or two, but what else will he/she do to make your home stand out? If your potential agent suggests a unique marketing strategy for your home this is a great sign that he/she can be trusted. You want an agent on your team that is willing to go above and beyond to sell or find you a home.
When it comes to figuring out if an agent is right for you, it is always good to trust your gut instinct. If you have any question marks about a certain agent, it’s best to keep interviewing to find your perfect fit.
